microcasts! have just upgraded my account so that I can play around with microcasts. Looking forward to trying it out.
As a social worker, I am always interested in people talking about grass roots activism. So this charming little documentary was lovely to watch.
Just finished watching The West Wing again. What’s next.
Remembering early Digital Audio Workstations
I was talking about digital audio today with some (young) friends. I told them about the early Digital Audio Workstations that I used when I was working as a professional audio engineer. This was one of them. The D.A.R was touch-screen as I recall, but the touch-screen was terrible. I remember having to touch the clip just right otherwise it would select an adjacent clip, it was really frustrating. Our D.A.R. had only 8 tracks, crashed all the time, and I think it cost our studio well over $100,000. I have free apps on my phone that can do a much better job now.
Molly Ringwald on the movies of John Hughes in the era of #MeToo
As someone who was a teenager in the 80s, I really enjoyed reading this piece in the Nw Yorker by Molly Ringwald looking back at the films of John Hughes www.newyorker.com/culture/p…

Christmas shopping is starting to heat up in Melbourne. Good in small doses but I think I will choose a less busy time in future.
In Perth for a conference. Beautiful sunsets here.
Five songs I am enjoying at the moment.
- Because I’m Me – The Avalanches
- Tall Man Skinny Lady – Ty Segall
- Over Everything – Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile
- A Man Is Not His Song – Feist
- Dear Life – Beck
Also enjoying the fact that two of these acts hail from my hometown Melbourne!
Great day in Melbourne. Perfect day for a beach brunch and first beach motorcycle ride for Spring.
Visited my old home town of Bendigo over the weekend. This was one of my favourite old haunts.
If you are visiting Melbourne and are in the mood for dumplings, this place is great.
Making the most of a sunny Saturday and have walked down to Docklands. Nice and peaceful escape from the apartment.
Spring is in the air tonight. A woman walking past just said “it’s so warm tonight, I’m so excited!”. Melbourne is great in Spring.
Oculus Rift and Glasses
I have been spending quite a bit of time on the Oculus Rift over the last month. I am about to start a research project that will involve having older adults in residential aged care use the device. One of my biggest concerns is being able to fit the headset well for people wearing glasses. In my experience it inevitably pushed my glasses uncomfotably against my face, and when I take it off the headset rips my glasses off my face. Not the ideal UX for working with older adults.
Have been working crazy hours of late. Looks as though things are about to settle down just a little bit and I am enjoying the thought of having a weekend soon where I will not have to work. Especially exciting as Spring is in the air in the antipodes!
