About

Steven Baker

I am a researcher and senior lecturer at the School of Health Sciences and Social Work at Griffith University.

My research interests centre around how technology can be used to support human flourishing and benefit disadvantaged groups. My doctoral research focussed on the use of tablet computers by older adults with histories of homelessness, social isolation and complex needs. This research focus continues via work investigating the use of technology to decrease social isolation, support storytelling, warn of the dangers of heat stress and support older adult immigrants to connect with social supports. In addition to my work with older adults, I am also involved in projects investigating the role technology plays in domestic and family violence and the use of technology to support people living with a disability.

I combine my academic interest in human-computer interaction (HCI) with professional experience as a social worker. Participatory research methods are central to my approach to research.
